Frequently asked questions

The most common questions about blisters, hydrocolloid and BenPed in plain language.

What is hydrocolloid?

An absorbent material that can form a gel when it contacts wound fluid and can support a protected moist wound environment.

Can I shower with a BenPed plaster?

Hydrocolloid blister products are designed for protection during everyday use; always follow the current packaging for water resistance and wear time.

How long should a blister plaster stay on?

Do not rely on one universal time. Follow the package instructions and replace sooner if it lifts, becomes contaminated or the skin reacts poorly.

Is white gel under the plaster an infection?

Not necessarily. Hydrocolloid can become whitish or gel-like after absorbing wound fluid. Infection is assessed from the whole picture, such as increasing pain, redness, heat, pus or fever.

Should I pop a blister?

An intact blister roof protects the skin. Routine self-puncturing is not necessary; large or complicated blisters are better assessed professionally.

Can BenPed be used preventively?

Early protection of a known friction point can make sense while skin is intact, provided current product instructions allow it.

When should I seek medical help?

Seek assessment for infection signs, severe pain, poor circulation, diabetes, neuropathy or increased wound-healing risk.

When should you seek medical advice?
Get a blister or wound assessed if there are clear signs of infection, increasing redness or heat, pus, fever, severe pain, poor circulation, or if you have diabetes, neuropathy or an increased wound-healing risk. Always follow the current product packaging and manufacturer instructions.
